Everything you want to know about GothVille!

Want to know more about GothVille and the projects. This article will explain a bit more about how we work and how we are organized...

The Organization

As a non-profit organization we started in the beginning of this century. In 2005 we started with an on-line streaming project where we broadcast dark goth-scene related music over the internet. With a random play list, and real DJ's creating their own play lists we create 24h/24h a day a non-stop radio where all sub genres get their attention. The organization got also legal in 2005. Because we're originated in Belgium (Europe) our official name is GothVille vzw. V.Z.W. stands for "Vereniging Zonder Winstoogmerk" which is dutch and simply translated as "Non-Profit Organization". Our goal is to promote the Gothic subculture (and yes we know, Gothic is for some not a subculture), and the related music scene.

In 2008 we had some serious second thoughts about our projects. The work in real life was taking so much time there was not many time left for the project. But a new vibe somewhere in our heads turned off these thoughts and we decided to go further. And this time a bit more concentrated to the 2 main reasons people were visiting our site. The music, still reason number one we think, and the blogging community reason as a second one. Because the used interfaces were old, and not up-to-date for the newest internet standards we decided to separate these two main type of visitors. GothVille.Net was needed as a second project, specially for the community people. With this new tool you can post your blogs, pictures, music and video's. If you're into chatting and blogging, please visit www.gothville.net for creating your own dark pages!

The GothVille Guardian

In 2006 we got more requests to publish some news about their bands, events, and other shit we like in the dark. It was an idea to start with posting some news on a regular base, and did a check if people were interested in an old fashioned paper edition. The GothVille Guardian was born in the middle of the night, and our Gothic soul had some darkside effects, more work...

A paper edition is not yet a fact. But we are still thinking about it to give it a start. Feedback on this would be appreciated.
Please let us know what you think about a good old fashioned newspaper? But with only news about the darkness of the goth music community. Still reading this article? Hey, you are anyway invited to send us your articles which we will publish if it is related to the scene in general. Also we will of course keep an eye on the .net project. Here we can find new bands and events to report from. There is only one step you need to do, sign up and publish.

The GothVille Radio

When we started with our streaming radio project, we had about 17.000 tracks in our database. At the time of this writing we have more then 57.000 tracks listed, going from Gothic Rock to noise with almost everything in between. With this new website we had to create a new interfaces for the radio. GothVille 2.0 will be an improvement for the D J's after a long waiting period. It will be easier to create play lists, more features to update tracks if they are faulty indexed, and more stats about the tracks themselves.

People can listen for free to our station, we did mess up the track information for making our station RIP unfriendly, and the possebility to request a track is still available for registered listeners. New is that when you logon to this .com site we will try to find out if you are listening to the radio as well. This way our radio will try to play songs from those tracks you gave a score of more then 6 points out of a scale of 10. Futher we have added a voting cycle for requesting a genre change on a track. if this voting cycle has registered 3 different people who have choosen the same genre, the track will change to this subgenre.
