Girls On Film - MENTAL IMAGEHigh-energy stage antics and Dancetronic Glam Wave

Hailing from the capitol of Florida, GIRLS ON FILMare an all-female two piece band whose music is one part lipstick synth-popand one part icy-cold new wave. Their fashion fueled combination of high-energy stage antics and Dancetronic Glam Wave – their signature sound - have earned the band a reputation as one of the hottest new wave acts out of the Southeast since theirinception in 2002.

The Girls traveled to Malibu in the Summer of 2008 to work on their latest record the Mental Image EP with legendary producer, GezaX (best known for his work on Meredith Brooks’ hit, “Bitch”, as well as many early and influential LA punk bands including the Dead Kennedys, The Germs, Black Flag, and The Avengers), and Paul Roessler of Screamers, Twisted Roots, and 45 Grave.

The 9-song EP is chock full of memorable hooks and perfectly exhibits the band’s new-wave inspired sound that straddles the line between retro and postmodern. It also features several remixes by high-profile artists including Macutchi, Mike Lange and DJ F. Song themes cover such topics as unrealized love, obsession, and self-doubt, but lead singer, Rio’s, carefully calculated lyrics are sharp shooting and sophisticated. The EP’s two singles, “Pitiless Friend” and “Metrosexual”, feature the driving rhythms, icy synthwave hooks, and quirky vocals for which GIRLS ON FILM have become known.

Overall, the Mental Image EP combines a rhythmic, sensual whiff of nostalgia with progressive ideas and is a surprisinglymodern-sounding album that brings a rock-and- roll attitude back to dance music.
