Girls On Film - MENTAL IMAGEHigh-energy stage antics and Dancetronic Glam Wave

Hailing from the capitol of Florida, GIRLS ON FILMare an all-female two piece band whose music is one part lipstick synth-popand one part icy-cold new wave. Their fashion fueled combination of high-energy stage antics and Dancetronic Glam Wave – their signature sound - have earned the band a reputation as one of the hottest new wave acts out of the Southeast since theirinception in 2002.

The Girls traveled to Malibu in the Summer of 2008 to work on their latest record the Mental Image EP with legendary producer, GezaX (best known for his work on Meredith Brooks’ hit, “Bitch”, as well as many early and influential LA punk bands including the Dead Kennedys, The Germs, Black Flag, and The Avengers), and Paul Roessler of Screamers, Twisted Roots, and 45 Grave.

Ego Likeness - Breedless PDF Print E-mail
GothVille Guardian
Written by Anaxagoras
Saturday, 24 April 2010 10:50

BreedlessFounded in 1999 by the artist Steven Archer and the author Donna Lynch, the name originates from the novel "Dune" from Frank Herbert's series of the same name. "Breedless" is the fourth album from this American duo, as well as their first release on Dependent. EGO LIKENESS have ascended from their technoid, organic, trip-hop origins and evolved into a darker electronic dimension with each ensuing album. The earlier comparisons with bands like CURVE and COLLIDE can no longer be applied to "Breedless", as the duo's work has taken on a much broader and darker spectrum, switching between soft female chants and a much louder vocal style filled with tormented energy. Despite its variable speeds and volumes, the album is always emotionally charged, whilst the lyrics consider the darkness of our human psyche. In retrospect, it is obvious that EGO LIKENESS have consistently increased their standard of productivity.  An amazing fourth album!

Mundtot

With their EP "Endzeit" a few rebellious young musicians, calling themselves 'mundtot' - present a debut that really shows some of the old hands in the gothic scene what's what.

That the roots of the Munich-based trio comes from post-punk and new wave is really unmistakable. Likewise, they mix elegiac wavy guitars with synthpop-hooks and aggressive punk-rhythms with pounding industrial elements.

In which they are indifferent building on the roots of a music - that hardly anyone knows today - expanding this with modern Industrial-Gothrock, they create an exciting, raw, uncut and rebellious music.
The vocals move smart on the line between accusatory sadness and aggressive rebellion.

It is with great sadness that we inform you that Type O Negative front man, bassist, Peter Steele passed away last night of what appears to be heart failure.
Peter Steele
Ironically Peter had been enjoying a long period of sobriety and improved health and was imminently due to begin writing and recording new music for our follow up to "Dead Again" released in 2007.

The official cause of death has yet to be determined pending autopsy results. The funeral services will be private and memorial services will be announced at a future date. We’d like to share our thoughts and those of Peter’s family below.
We are truly saddened to lose a great musician and appreciate the tremendous outpouring today from around the world.

"A decade in glitter and danger", this ‘Best Of’ is acting as a reminder of this a decade of joy, and pain.

Porn

With influences from Placebo to Nine Inch Nails, Porn combine rock and electro sensibilities: a perfect hybrid of biting guitar action and toiling machines enveloped in glamorous and sensual aesthetics.
From the churning electro-rock of “Baby Smack” and “Soft Machine” to the unplugged quietness of “Stiff Little Things”, passing by the rhythmic industrial snarling attitude of “Superfurry”, this album is the best way to discover PORN's universe.

„So “While I was in love I was the happiest man on earth; but no one can love who has not a heart.” (“The Wizard of Oz”)

The Girl And The RobotThe odyssey continues: Earlier this year, THE GIRL & THE ROBOT set out in their quest to find love in our heartless society on their double feature single “Whole/Flowers”. Now they expand their mission. Like the Tinman desperately seeking his lost heart in the wonderful world of Oz, also the debut album of Plastique and her Swedish Tinman Deadbeat has become a quest for warmth, love and passion.

In twelve timelessly beautiful, crystal clear Electro pearls, the gorgeous girl acts side by side with an intrinsically cold-hearted robot, causing him to produce anything but deadhearted or cold melodies with his sequencers. No wonder with a personified sin like Plastique by his side. Ethereal, enigmatic, bewitched and utterly succumbing, her voice instills this certain little something into the floating tracks between retro charm and urban chic. And when she sensually sighs the words “I will always love you until the end of time” in the last song, listeners and robots alike have become highly addicted to her.

Interview: about the new Album "The Death of Romance" and touring

Andre asked the guys from zeromancer about their new album "The Death of Romance" and about touring. Enjoy the interview ;)
Zeromancer
Hello again, nice that you have some time again for us to ask you about your new album today!
Your new album „Death of Romance“ has now been released. Musically, how is the new album different from the previous ones?

ALEX: The making of “Sinners International” was such a huge inspiration to us. Finally we produced, recorded and mixed the album ourselves and we found the perfect way to work, both technically and creative. With “The Death of Romance” we continued and upgraded the workflow from Sinners and the result is fantastic. Better sounding, exiting, intense and a very personal album. I’m proud! With Dan and Lorry onboard we’ve worked as a band 24/7. All five giving the best we have and inspire each other all the way. We are family now. You can’t beat that!

KIM: I feel this one is Zeromancer to the bone. We have sort of perfected what we did on Sinners and taking it a a lot further. We have dug a little deeper into the dark aspects of the band since last time. I see the Death of Romance as a deeply personal document for the band. It’s a kind of celebration of Zeromancer I think and the unity we feel we are right now. Though it was hard work it has been the easiest puzzle to do in our career. I believe it’s our determination we can thank for that.

Have you tried something that you haven’t done before or maybe you went back to the roots?

mind.in.a.box - 8 BITS PDF Print E-mail

mind.in.a.box - 8 BITSSpring 1982. The American computer company Commodore releases the first really potent home computer, which impressed the growing computer community  with technical specifications like 64 Kilobytes Ram or an 8 bit processor with separate graphic and sound chip units: The Commodore 64. This device opened a whole new world for home computer users, it became the world's most popular and successful home computer in the 80ties and still holds that title today. The reason was not only a separate cutting edge graphic accelerator that enabled high resolution gaming and fluent scrolling, but also the unique SID sound chip which was equipped with modern sound effect generators and the capability of a three track polyphonic playback. The result was a new synthetic sound aesthetic which also made the C64 one of the first stand-alone synthetic music production devices.

This unique sound kept ringing in the memory of Austrian Stefan Poiss, founder and singer of Mind.In.A.Box. . He was intrigued by the catchiness and the different sound-design of early computer game classics like "Lightforce" or "Last Ninja 3". By the age of 12 he started his first Stepps to compose music on its own on the C64, and even wrote his own sequencer music software for the Commodore to put tracks together himself with more ease.

MantusThat which accumulated during the years of tranquility and silence seems to have been quite something! With undiminished, exuberant creativity and strength, MANTUS release their latest masterpiece, ‘Demut’, even as the last sounds of ‘Requiem’ have barely faded away.

On ‘Demut’, MANTUS continue the lyrical themes of ‘Requiem’ in that they grapple with the subject matter of the ‘vanitas’ art movement of the 16th and 17th centuries, which held that man should visualise the finality of all things and that death stands by as the omnipresent power over us all, so as to teach us humility (Demut in German).
Nevertheless, or perhaps indeed because of this, MANTUS have created an extremely powerful, indeed rocking album.

Engelsstaub with re-release Ignis Fatuus - Irrlichter PDF Print E-mail

A milestone of dark romantic, folk-influenced music is now being re-released.
With their album „Ignis Fatuus: Irrlichter“ German band ENGELSSTAUB created a fascinating piece of dark music.

Based on trance-like percussion basements, beautiful and softly plugged acoustic guitars create impressive folk melodies.
Medieval flutes and the male-female vocal dualism rise a sacred lure comparable to DEAD CAN DANCE. The decent use of synthesizers on top of the neofolk rhythmic pattern spreads a fragile charme like DEATH IN JUNE.
Skillfully the music flows between apocalyptic folk, neoclassic and fascinating eternal and modern arrangements.

Engelsstaub

Astonishingly this records has been created already in 1994. But the Label APOLLYON/Musique Indépendante Noire brings this uncarved diamond of acoustic orientated, melancholic folk music back into the light by a re-release in 2010.
The Re-Release comes in a 6-panel DVD-Digipak with a completely reworked audio material and an additional, previously unreleased track. Thus, this CD is a must have for every collector of neofolk / neoclassic or darkwave.

Fascinating, beautiful romantic, hypnotic, fragile and far away from being a commercial sell-out, there is just one question to ask:
Why did we have to wait such an incredibly long time until the re-release of that magnificent milestone?

Suicide Commando - Implements of HellThe fascination of evil. There are few bands that manage to adapt the most extreme sides of human behaviour to club-compatible electronic sounds as effectively as SUICIDE COMMANDO, the evil musical brainchild of Belgian hard electro legend Johan van Roy. On his newest long player "Implements of Hell", he effectively pulls out all the stops of a career spanning more than two decades to send the listener on a rollercoaster ride through all the hellish ingredients that make for the sonic phenomenon known as SUICIDE COMMANDO. Lashing aggro-dance tracks like the single "Die Motherf*cker Die" alternate with heavy, dark and rhythmic synthesizer monsters that are not only a massive modern-day reminiscence of the early works of the band, but that also make "Implements of Hell" the darkest excess from SUICIDE COMMANDO ever, and the most menacing dance album of the last few years. Had Charles Manson been wreaking havoc in the Techno Age, his music would probably have sounded like this. The killer is striking terror into people's hearts on the dance floor... and you, sure as hell, won't be able to escape him this time!

This time our dare-all is armed only with his voice, a tape-machine and projection slides confronting the audience, as well as himself, with an experimental trip going from dark industrial and noisy soundscapes to more accessible tunes and back again.

Supportband 'Companions in Art (CIA)' rarely comes out of the dark with their electro-wave beats, but for this occasion, the Gothville Gothfathers made an exception. And they'll bring a few brand new non-released songs.
